Over half the world's languages still wait for even one book of the BibleWE HAVE THE BIBLE ON TAP, BUT WORLDWIDE IT'S A VERY DIFFERENT STORYAround 4,500 languages still don't have a single book of the Bible translated into them. That means over half the world's languages are still without God's great life-changing message. But millions – mostly the poor and marginalised – still wait. They struggle to understand God's message in a language not their own. For many this Bible poverty means God remains distant, speaking another language. They are left vulnerable to a distorted understanding of the Bible's message. For millions more – those without the Bible in any language that they understand – the good news about Jesus remains a closed book. In India alone there are 283 languages each spoken by about the same number of people and without any of the Bible translated into them. Together they represent 80 million people waiting for the truth that Jesus can set them free. TRANSLATION SETS FALAM PEOPLE FREE
When the Falam people in Myanmar (Burma) finally received the Bible in their own language, they were overjoyed. One elder commented, "It was so good we could not stop reading it! We now look back and realise having the Bible in our own language has freed us from feelings of 'slavery'. Now, when we read his word in our own language, we realise we are special, we are people created by God."
“People said when they read from the English it's like God is speaking from far away. But when they read in Pijiin it brings God closer, it's like God is speaking to them from nearby, like they're just next to him.”
